Introduction
This report, titled "Unpacking Grind Culture in American Teens: Pressure, Burnout, and the Role of Social Media," delves into the significant stressors faced by teenagers today. It highlights how teens navigate expectations from family, school, and social media, often leading to feelings of anxiety and burnout. The report, created in collaboration with the Center for Digital Thriving at Harvard and the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, investigates the dual role of social media in either alleviating or exacerbating these pressures. Key findings suggest that while many teens experience negative pressure, engaging in self-care practices can mitigate feelings of burnout. The report advocates for understanding the complexities of teen interactions with technology and emphasizes the importance of fostering environments that support mental well-being through self-care and reduced pressures.
